Use as many ways as you can to understand your customer’s behavior, demographics, and requirements then work out a way of satisfying these.
Keep an eye on the Marketing Environment

For example customers spending habits change during a recession, in the last recession many restaurants suffered a downturn in business however fast food restaurants saw an increase in sales due to customers turning to them instead of dining out. Make sure you regularly check out you market environment for opportunities, and don’t forget to chack for threats as well!!
3. Make sure your Offering is what your clients want
Marketing Basic 3. You need to make sure your product or service is actually what your customers want – from the packaging to the way it is promoted. It is important that you dont make the mistake of making your product or service the thing you want to sell, rather than designing and presenting things in the way the customer wants
If you are not sure what your customers want then ask them, better still get someone else to ask them, as clients will often tell you one thing and then tell others something totally different, – It often happens, so dont be surprised if it is happening to you !!!
